Hello there! Welcome to my shiny, newly renovated corner of the internet—where stories are stitched together, mysteries unravel, and romance always wins the day. If you’re here, chances are you love stories just as much as I do. And lucky for you, I’ve got plenty to share.
But first, let’s talk about how I got here (spoiler: it’s been a ride).
How I Ended Up With Three Names
About two and a half years ago, I became a ghostwriter—basically, the invisible ninja of the writing world. And while it’s an amazing, ghostwriting comes with one little catch: NDAs. I have loads of experience writing across genres, but because of those non-disclosure agreements, I can’t exactly leverage my experience in the way I'd like to.
So, what did I do? I decided to write under my own name. I thought I’d figure out my “author voice” in the process. Instead, my first name, CJ Kavanaugh, became a bit of a chaotic mess. I experimented with everything—romance, fantasy, and cozy mysteries—like a writer on a caffeine bender.
Then, somewhere between all the experimenting, I made a few big discoveries:
I love writing romance. I never expected to fall for the genre, but once I did, I realized it was exactly where my heart belonged.
Mysteries are my jam. I’ve always loved a good whodunit, and mystery writing turned out to be my absolute favorite thing to ghostwrite. So, I decided to build my own cozy mystery portfolio, which resulted in about a year of brainstorming before I finally landed on the Fablefern series.
And just like that, three pen names were born.
Meet the Author(s)
1. Claerie Kavanaugh – Sapphic Romance This is where I write stories about love—the kind that makes your heart swoon, ache, and flutter all at once. Under Claerie, I focus on sapphic romances that are full of joy, depth, and happily-ever-afters. If you’re into celebrity romances and feel-good love stories, stick around.
I recently released A Dash of Love for Christmas, a swoony holiday romance that’s perfect for cozy winter nights (or any time, really).
2. CJ Kavanaugh – Sapphic Fantasy Serial Fantasy is where my imagination goes wild. Under CJ, I write an ongoing sapphic fantasy serial filled with magic, found family, and stakes so high, you’ll need a safety harness.
The first three books are already done and will be available as an omnibus in March 2025. If you love evolving magic, epic storylines, and a touch of mystery, this one’s for you.
3. C.J. Bellvue – Cozy Mysteries Ah, cozy mysteries—my not-so-secret favorite. Inspired by my lifelong love of Nancy Drew and a need to solve fictional crimes, I created the Fablefern series. These books follow Rowan, a seamstress who can stitch together more than just fabric—she also unravels magical, small-town mysteries.
Then there’s the Sweet Street Sleuths series, where a mother-daughter baking duo solve crimes tied to their charming bakery. Because who doesn’t love a good whodunit with a side of pastries?

Why I Write These Stories
Each genre I write feels like a different part of me. Romance speaks to my heart; fantasy feeds my imagination; and mysteries satisfy my lifelong love of puzzles. These stories are the ones I wish I had growing up—full of love, adventure, and characters who feel real.
I may have started out ghostwriting for others, but now I’m here to share the stories that are entirely mine.
